Cast magnesium alloys are manufactured by Die casting, Permanent mold casting and Sand casting methods.
Mechanical properties (particularly ductility) of cast magnesium alloys are lower, than those of wrought alloys.
Cast Magnesium-Aluminum-Manganese Alloys (AM100A, AM60A) are heat-treatable and may be strengthened by precipitation hardening (solution treatment followed by aging).
Magnesium-aluminum-manganese cast alloys have good casting properties and good combination of mechanical strength and ductility.

Cast magnesium-rare earth-zirconium alloys have good mechanical strength at elevated temperatures – up to 500°F (260°C).
Cast Magnesium-Zinc-Zirconium Alloys (ZK51A) may be hardened by heat treatment.
