According to the Unified Numbering System (UNS):
Aluminum Bronzes are copper alloys, containing 3.5-10% of aluminum (Al) as the major alloying element. Wrought Aluminum Bronzes are designated with the numbers from C60800 through C64699.
Wrought Aluminum Bronzes may contain iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn) and silicon (Si) as additional alloying elements.
Aluminum Bronzes containing up to 9% of aluminum have mono-phase structure (α-phase).
Such alloys have excellent formability in cold state.
Alloys containing more than 9% of aluminum have binary phase structure (mixture of α- phase and β-phase).
These bronzes have low formability and are used mostly in as cast conditions.
Wrought Aluminum Bronzes possess high mechanical strength combined with very good corrosion resistance in both atmosphere and sea water due to the ability of aluminum to form protective film of aluminum oxide on the metal surface.
Wrought Aluminum Bronzes are strengthened by cold work (strain hardening). Ductility of the alloys decreases as a result of cold work.
Aluminum Bronzes are used for manufacturing corrosion resistant vessels and tanks, structural and machine components, piping elements, threaded members, wear- and heat-resistant part, ship propellers, underwater fastenings, ships engine components.
