According to the Unified Numbering System (UNS):
Manganese Bronzes are copper alloys, containing 25-38% of zinc (Zn) as the major alloying element and 0.8-4.3% of manganese (Mn), 1-3% of iron (Fe) and up to 6.8% of aluminum (Al) as additional alloying elements. Manganese Bronzes are designated with the numbers from C86100 through C86800.
Manganese, iron and aluminum are added to the Manganese Bronzes for increasing their hardness and strength.
Manganese Bronzes possess very high mechanical strength combined with good ductility and good corrosion resistance.
Machinability of the Cast Brasses is moderate.
Manganese Bronzes are used for manufacturing large valve stems, flanges, gears, shafts, cams, heavy load bearings, bushings, screw down nuts, gun mounts, hydraulic cylinder parts, pump components, impellers, frames, high strength machine parts.
